The optics are made with premium optical glass and are coated with our own natural color transmission multi-coating which boosts light transmission much higher than similar binoculars in this price range and yields extraordinary clarity, resolution and color fidelity.

Focusing is our unique "Fast-Focus" system which turns from close focus to infinite distance in two full turns of the focus wheel, for razor sharp fine tuning. The focusing is smooth and precise, and it's waterproof.

Since birds are skittish by the presence of bright or light colors, Steiner tried the opposite approach with the exterior finish of the Merlin: the almost transparent neutral color on the Merlin is a unique earth tone brown; chosen by Steiner's development staff and birders as a color least noticeable to birds.

All Merlin models include a super-comfortable neoprene neck strap that is cushioned so that the already lightweight binocular will feel even more weightless. The strap feature a quick-release buckle system and can be removed instantly for cleaning or replacement.

A rain-guard is included and is probably one of the most important standard accessories. It will keep rain, moisture and dust off the eyepiece (ocular lenses) so you get clear views every time. The rain-guard attaches to the strap, so you won’t lose it , and slides on and off easily.

Objective caps grip the to the lenses securely and are also quick-release detachable, if you should want to remove them.

The case is very unique feature in itself. It is a thermo-formed PVC that basically adds about another cushioning layer to the outside of the binocular. The attractive sleek design looks good and is perfect for travel. A strap for the case is also included.

All models are tripod mountable and are threaded in the center-hinge assembly in the standard _-20 tripod threading size. Simply unscrew the cover cap and attach a tripod adapter which will attach to tripod or viewing post.
