"This new optical system in Nikon's handgun scopes is truly the next generation in quality
optics for the hunter who demands the ultimate in optical and mechanical
performance," said Jim D'Elia, General Manager of Nikon Sport Optics.
"The UCC optical system is capable of boosting light transmission
to an almost-perfect 95% level."
D'Elia pointed out that even the finest optical glass absorbs an
average of .5% of transmitted light per lens element, so a 10-lens
system such as Nikon's Monarch UCC 3-9x40 absorbs a total of 5%. This type of light absorption is not
correctable.
According to the scope maker, each Monarch UCC
model begins with the highest grade of scope optical glass, which
is ground and polished to remove surface aberrations and blemishes
that could cause glare-producing diffraction. Then, Nikon
carefully applies a series of its own proprietary, anti-reflective multicoating materials to each lens surface utilizing an exclusive
application method. Even the outer surfaces of the objective and
eyepiece lenses are coated. (Normally soft, Nikon has created a
hard, durable multicoating for these outer lenses to resist scratching.)"By incorporating higher quality anti-reflective lens coating
materials and cutting edge multi-layering application techniques,"
D'Elia states, "Nikon is able to squeeze every bit of ambient light
possible through the scope to your eye. The Monarch's near-95%
light transmission means that Nikon has accomplished virtually 100%
anti-reflection capability."
Nikon utilizes highly accurate, 1/4-minute deep positive click
windage and elevation adjustments on the Monarch Series scopes,
the only exception being the 6.5-20x44 varmint
scope which features 1/8-minute clicks. Steel-to-brass movements
were chosen by Nikon for reliability and repeatability, as well
as durability and longevity.
Recognizing that the construction of a scope can have as much to
do with a hunter's success as does optical brilliance or mechanical
precision, Nikon builds all Monarch UCC scopes using a strong, lightweight,
one-piece main body tube for shockproof integrity, regardless of
the rifle or pistol on which they're mounted.
The Monarch UCC Series consists of a 4x40 fixed power riflescope
and 2-7x32, 3-9x40, 3.5-10x50, 4-12x40 AO (Adjustable Objective)
and 6.5-20x44 AO variables. Nikon also offers a Monarch UCC 2x20
EER (Extended Eye Relief) pistol scope. All six riflescopes are
available in either black Lustre or Matte finish. The pistol
scope is offered in black Lustre or Silver finish.
